• Identify your age division.
  • What clubs are in the area or how far you are willing to travel?.
  • Visit the club website, contact the club director, talk to other parents who have played for a club or the coaches.
  • What is it going to cost? Club volleyball can be expensive. There are fees for tournaments, uniforms, court rental, equipment, coaches’ stipends, etc. There will also be tournaments outside of the area that might require hotel stays.
  • Find out of the club does fund-raising or fees based on income.
  • Find out what the payment schedule is.
  • How often are practices and where are they? What If I miss a practice?
  • What is the typical tournament schedule? What if I am unavailable for a tournament?
  • Who are the coaches at my age level and what are their experience? Does the club have someone who oversees the practice plan or does each coach prepare their own?
  • What is the club philosophy? Many clubs label themselves with words like “premier” or “elite”. But what does this really mean? If a club is truly one of these things, they will have a track record to prove it.
  • What is the tryout process?
  • The more teams a club has, the better the club.
  • You pay for what you get – more expensive is better.
  • A paid coach is better than a volunteer coach.
  • Coaches who played in college are better than coaches who might not have played in high school.
  • If I play club volleyball, I will get a college offer.
